A Booking Page for Driving Instructors, Built Around the Pickup Address

Lesson lengths as separate offerings, travel time between pupils handled once, blocks of lessons sold up front and booked one at a time, and the pickup details collected with the booking.

By Vasanth Sriram

A driving instructor’s diary is mostly geography. An hour with a pupil in one town and the next hour across it are not two consecutive slots, whatever the calendar says, and a lesson booked without a pickup address is a lesson you have to text about before it can happen. Add the pupil who books a two-hour session when they meant one, and the one who cancels the night before a test-day slot you turned other work down for, and the admin starts costing more than the gaps.

This post covers what a booking page needs for driving instruction. For the underlying mechanics of availability and payment, see taking bookings and appointments online.

One offering per lesson length

A standard hour, a two-hour session, a motorway lesson, and a test-day slot are different amounts of your day and often different prices. Set each up as its own offering with its own duration, and a pupil books the thing they meant rather than picking a length out of a single generic slot.

Test-day slots are worth separating even if the duration matches something else. They usually need a longer window than the test itself, and you want to be able to close them off independently when you’re already covering one.

The pickup address, collected with the booking

The detail that decides whether a lesson can happen is where it starts. A custom question on the offering asks for it as part of booking, and marking it required means no lesson reaches your diary without one.

The same applies to everything else you currently chase over text:

  • Pickup address, and a drop-off if it differs
  • Provisional licence number
  • Whether they’ve driven before, and roughly how many hours
  • Test date, if one is booked
  • A phone number for the morning of the lesson

Those answers arrive attached to the booking. Booking form fields by vertical has more on which field types suit which answer.

Travel time, set once instead of guessed every week

Set a buffer on the offering and Keepp keeps that time free after every lesson, so the next pupil is never shown a start time that assumes you teleport. Set it to the drive you actually do between pupils rather than the best case.

A lead time stops the other problem. Set it to a day and nobody books a 9am lesson at 8:40, when you are already out and not looking at your phone.

Your weekly availability should be the hours you teach, and blackout dates cover the days you’re not working at all. If you’d rather not take bookings for dates months out, the booking window setting caps how far ahead the page will go.

Selling a block of ten, booking them one at a time

Most pupils buy lessons in blocks and take them one by one, which is two different actions and works best as two different blocks on your page. Sell the block itself as a product, paid up front through your own connected Stripe account, and keep the lesson offering for scheduling each one. You’re the merchant of record, so block payments reach you directly.

That split also keeps your diary honest. The block is paid for once. Each lesson is still a real slot with a real pickup address, booked when the pupil is ready for it.

A deposit on the slots you can’t refill

A cancelled Saturday lesson is an hour you turned down other work for. Set an offering as paid and the slot only confirms once payment clears, with your cancellation and refund terms shown before the pupil confirms, so the rule about short-notice cancellations is something they agreed to rather than something you have to argue for afterwards.

For test-day slots, where losing the booking means losing the whole morning, that matters more than anywhere else in the diary.

Theory sessions without a car

If you run theory or hazard-perception sessions online, connect Google or Zoom and a video lesson gets its own meeting link generated when it’s booked, attached to the confirmation the pupil receives. See connect Zoom for the setup.

Showing the area you cover

Pupils book the instructor who covers their street. A map block shows where you’re based, and a short text block listing the towns and postcodes you teach in stops the bookings you’d only have to turn down.

Sending someone straight to one thing

A post about intensive courses and a card in a driving school window shouldn’t both land on the top of your page. Every offering has its own link and QR code in its Share button, so the intensive course link goes to the intensive course, and the QR on the card goes to a standard hour.

Catching the pupil who isn’t ready to book

Plenty of enquiries arrive before someone has a licence, a date, or the money for a block. A lead capture form on the same page takes a name, an area, and a rough start date, so you have a list to work through when a slot opens instead of an empty diary and no idea who wanted one.

Common questions

Can pupils book a block of lessons in one go? Sell the block as a product so it’s paid for once, then have the pupil book each lesson as its own slot. Each lesson keeps its own pickup address and time.

Can I stop taking bookings for a while? Blackout dates cover closures and holidays without touching the rest of your availability. To take something off the page entirely, remove its block and put it back when you want it bookable again.

Do lessons sync with my own calendar? Connect Google Calendar and bookings land there, with your existing busy times blocking new bookings automatically, so a dentist appointment in your personal calendar stops the page offering that hour.

Can two instructors share one page? Each instructor is better off with their own page and their own offerings, so one diary has no effect on the other.
