A Booking Page for Dog Groomers That Knows the Dog Before It Arrives
Slots sized by breed and coat, the questions that stop a two-hour groom being booked as a one-hour one, deposits that survive a no-show, and travel time built into a mobile groomer's day.
Most grooming appointments go wrong before the dog arrives. Someone books an hour for a matted doodle that needs three. A nervous rescue turns up behind a puppy’s first groom with no gap between them. A client who booked three weeks ago doesn’t show, and that chair sits empty on a Saturday. Every one of those is a booking problem rather than a grooming one, and each comes from a page that took the appointment without asking anything useful.
This post covers what a booking page needs for a grooming or pet service business. For the underlying mechanics of availability and payment, see taking bookings and appointments online.
Size the slot by the dog
“Dog groom” is not one appointment length. A short-coat tidy, a full doodle de-matting, and a puppy’s first introduction are three different amounts of your day, and offering them as one generic slot means your calendar is wrong about itself from the moment it’s booked.
Set up an offering per real service, each with its own duration: a bath and tidy at 60 minutes, a full groom at 120, a puppy introduction at 30. A client picking from three named services with honest lengths is telling you what they need and booking the right amount of time, in the same action.
If you price by size rather than service, offerings split that way just as well: small breed, medium, large, and a separate one for the coats that always take longer.
Ask the questions that change the appointment
The details that decide how long a groom takes are the ones people leave out of a booking. Custom questions on the offering put them in the booking itself, and marking them required means an appointment can’t reach your calendar without them:
- Breed and rough weight
- When the dog was last groomed
- Coat condition, matting in particular
- Anything about temperament or handling you need to know in advance
- Vaccination status, if you require it
- Whether the dog has been groomed by you before
Those answers arrive attached to the booking, so you’re reading them the night before rather than discovering a badly matted coat when the dog is already on the table. See booking form fields by vertical for how other trades use the same field types.
A gap between dogs, set once
Back-to-back slots look efficient in a calendar and are hard to keep to in a room. Drying takes as long as it takes, the table needs clearing, and a nervous dog leaving while the next one arrives helps nobody.
Set a buffer on the offering and Keepp keeps that time free after every booking automatically. You don’t block it out by hand, and no client is ever shown a start time that lands in it. A lead time does the same job at the front: set it to a day and nobody can grab a 9am slot at 8:40 that morning.
Travel time for mobile groomers
A mobile groom takes the appointment plus the drive, and only one of those is the thing people book. Buffers cover the drive. Beyond that, set your weekly availability to the hours you actually cover rather than the hours you’re awake, and add blackout dates for the days you’re not working at all, so the page never offers a van slot that was never going to happen.
If you cover a set area, an address question on the offering collects the postcode with the booking, and a map block on your page shows where you’re based, so the distance is clear before someone books.
A deposit that makes a Saturday slot real
A no-show on a weekend is a chair that earns nothing on the day it earns most. Set an offering as paid and the slot confirms once payment clears through your own connected Stripe account. You’re the merchant of record, so the money reaches you directly.
A deposit doesn’t have to be the full price. Enough that not turning up costs something is usually the point, with the rest settled at pickup. Your cancellation and refund terms show up before the client confirms, so what happens to a deposit on a late cancellation is something they agreed to, not a conversation you’re having on the doorstep.
Show the coats you’ve worked on
Grooming is judged by before and after. A showcase card carries photos with no price and no checkout, so your work sits above the booking offerings and a visitor decides “this is someone I trust with my dog” before they decide on a time. Sort them the way clients think: doodles, double coats, hand-stripping, nervous dogs.
Sending a client straight to one service
A Reel about de-matting shouldn’t land someone on the top of your page to hunt for the right button. Every offering has its own link and QR code in its Share button, so a post about puppy grooming can point at the puppy introduction, and a printed card in the van can point at the full groom.
Selling shampoo, brushes, or a nail trim add-on
If you sell aftercare products or retail lines, that’s a product block on the same page and the same Stripe account, so a client can reorder the shampoo you used without asking you for a link.
Common questions
Can I take bookings for more than one dog from the same household? Each booking holds one slot, so two dogs are two bookings. A custom question asking whether other dogs are coming the same day lets you place them next to each other yourself.
What if a groom runs over? The buffer absorbs a short overrun. For breeds that regularly take longer, the honest fix is a longer offering rather than a longer buffer, so the calendar stops promising a slot you can’t keep.
Can I stop new clients booking the longest services? Keep the longest offering for dogs you know by making a first-visit consultation the only offering a new client can book, then point regulars at the full groom link directly.
