How to Make Money on X Without 5 Million Impressions
X's ad revenue share requires a Premium subscription, 500 followers, and roughly 5 million organic impressions over three months — a bar most accounts never clear. Here's what actually pays before you get there, and after.

X’s Creator Ad Revenue Sharing has real requirements before a single payout: an active X Premium subscription, a verified account in good standing, at least 500 followers, and around 5 million organic impressions over the trailing three months. That’s not a small account’s numbers — it’s a genuinely high bar, and most accounts on the platform, including plenty with real, engaged, monetizable audiences, never clear it.
None of that means those accounts can’t make money on X. It means the money isn’t coming from the ad-share program, and needs to come from somewhere else.
What doesn’t require the impressions bar
Affiliate links. Sharing a link to a product or service and earning a cut when someone buys through it doesn’t require Premium, a follower count, or any impressions threshold — it requires an audience that trusts your recommendation, which is a much lower bar than 5 million organic impressions.
Consulting and services sold through the account. A lot of the highest-earning X accounts aren’t making their money from the platform’s own tools at all — they’re using X to build an audience and reputation, then converting that into consulting, coaching, or service work sold directly, entirely outside any X monetization program.
Course or digital product sales. Same logic — X is the distribution and reputation-building layer; the actual sale happens on a page you control, priced by you, with no platform payout formula involved at all.
X’s own native tools, if you qualify. Creator Subscriptions, Tips, and Ticketed Spaces exist below the ad-share program’s threshold and are worth turning on if they apply to your account — they’re just not the whole strategy.
The one link X gives you has to carry the load
X’s profile has room for exactly one link and a pinned post. Whatever mix of affiliate income, consulting, and product sales you’re running, that single link is where all of it has to live — which means it needs to be a real page, not a raw link to a single product or a generic homepage that makes a visitor guess what you actually offer.
A product shows what it is and what it costs before anyone clicks buy. A booking block shows real available times for a consult, synced to your calendar. An affiliate card shows the recommendation and its code. All three can sit on the same page behind the one link X gives you.
Threads that sell, without the DM bottleneck
A thread that generates real interest in a consult or service usually ends in the same place: a flood of DMs asking “how do I book this” or “what’s the price,” each one needing an individual reply. A booking offering with real availability turns that into a direct action — someone reads the thread, taps the link, books a slot — without a DM back-and-forth standing between interest and a booked call.
Where to start
If you qualify for X’s native monetization tools, use them — they’re free money on top of everything else. Build the actual income underneath them: an affiliate card for what you recommend, a booking offering for your time, a product for what you sell.
