Sumo Alternative: Pop-Ups Built Into Your Page

Sumo (now BDOW!) adds email pop-ups to a website you already have. If you sell, book or collect emails from one link, Keepp puts the page, the pop-up, the email list and the checkout in one place, with no script to install.

Sumo is a pop-up and email-capture tool you add to a website you already run. If you’re a creator or small business whose main page is a link in your bio, you may not have that website at all. Keepp is a page builder with the pop-up built in: a Spotlight block that asks visitors to join your list, buy, book or open a flyer, on the same page that takes the payment.

What happened to Sumo?

Sumo, the list-building tool from the team behind AppSumo, was acquired by the website builder Showit in 2024 and relaunched as BDOW!. BDOW!‘s own site describes it as “formerly Sumo”, rebuilt on the same engine. If you’re searching for Sumo today, BDOW! is where it lives.

What Sumo does well

Sumo made pop-ups something a small site owner could set up without a developer, and BDOW! keeps that focus:

  • Several formats: pop-ups, welcome mats, sticky bars and inline forms.
  • Triggers on exit intent, scrolling, time on page and clicks, with targeting and frequency controls.
  • Installs on WordPress, Shopify and Showit, or anywhere you can paste a script.
  • Sends sign-ups straight to email platforms like Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Flodesk and Kit.

If you already run a WordPress blog or a Shopify store and want more ways to capture emails on it, that’s exactly what it’s built for.

When you need more than a pop-up

A pop-up tool assumes the rest of the setup exists: a website to install it on, a page worth popping up over, and somewhere for the sale or the booking to happen. For a creator selling presets from a link in their bio, or a salon taking bookings from Instagram and Google Maps, that’s three or four tools before the first email is collected.

Keepp starts from the page instead:

  • The page. One page at keepp.link/yourname, built from blocks: links, products, bookings, forms, a map, articles, a chat and more.
  • The pop-up. A Spotlight block on that page, shown as a card, a button beside Share, or a pop-up.
  • The list. Every Spotlight sign-up lands in Forms and leads under Subscribers.
  • The sale. A Spotlight can open a product with its checkout, or a booking with its calendar, on the same page.

How the Spotlight behaves

The Spotlight comes with these rules built in, so there’s nothing to tune:

  • It never pops up as the page opens.
  • It pops up by itself once per visit at most.
  • It never comes back once the visitor has signed up, opened the product, or followed the link.
  • It never covers a checkout, a booking calendar or your chat.
  • It takes up at most half the screen for a sign-up, and closes with a tap outside it.

For a sale or an event, set the Spotlight to Image, upload the flyer you designed, and add a link. The flyer is the whole pop-up, shown uncropped, and tapping it opens the link.

Who should pick Sumo

Who should pick Keepp

Pick Keepp if your link in bio is your storefront. You get the page, the checkout, the bookings, the forms, the email sign-ups and the pop-up that ties them together, from one editor and one link.

Questions

Is Sumo the same as AppSumo? No. AppSumo is a software deals marketplace. Sumo was a separate list-building tool from the same founders; it’s now BDOW!, owned by Showit.

Can Keepp’s pop-up collect emails without an email tool? Yes. Sign-ups are stored in Forms and leads, where you can search, tag and add notes to them.

Does Keepp have exit-intent pop-ups? Yes. The Spotlight can pop up when a visitor moves to leave, after 20 seconds on the page, or halfway down the page.

How do I add one? Follow add a Spotlight to your page. For setup ideas, see how to add an email pop-up to your link-in-bio page.
