Digital vs Paper Business Cards: Which Should You Use in 2026?
Digital business cards and paper business cards compared: cost, updating your details, what happens after the handover, and tracking. When paper still makes sense, and how to use both with one QR code.
A digital business card is better for most people who meet others in person: it never runs out, it opens your current page instead of details that go out of date, and you can see how many people used it. Paper still works where a physical object helps, like a card left at a counter or tucked into an order. The best setup is both, with the same QR code: a digital card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for conversations, and a small printed code for everything you hand over or leave behind.
Digital vs paper at a glance
| Paper card | Digital card in Wallet | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Every print run | Included in your page’s plan |
| Runs out | Yes, usually at the event | No |
| Out-of-date details | Reprint to fix | Add the card again |
| What the other person gets | Contact details to type in | Your page, opened on their phone |
| Next step | They have to remember to email you | The code can open your booking calendar or a form |
| Tracking | None | Scan counts in Analytics |
| Works without your phone | Yes | No |
| Can be left behind | Yes | No |
Where digital business cards win
They open something useful. A paper card gives someone your email to type in later. A digital card’s QR code opens your page on their phone, with your work, your prices and a way to book or buy. On a Keepp card it can open one specific thing, like your booking calendar.
They are never out of date. The code opens your page, and your page is where you keep things current. When something on the card itself changes, like your photo or your line, you add the card to Wallet again.
You can see whether it worked. Every scan of a Keepp visiting card is counted in Analytics on its own line. Paper cards disappear into pockets and you never know which ones were read.
They never run out. Your card is in Wallet on your phone, which you were going to bring anyway.
Where paper still makes sense
Leaving something behind. A card on a café counter, in a shop window, or in a stack at a market stall works while you are busy with someone else.
Inside an order. A thank-you card in a package is something a customer holds and keeps.
Some industries and countries. In some settings, handing over a printed card is part of the introduction. A card with a QR code on the back covers both.
Use both, with one QR code
You don’t have to choose. Keepp makes your wallet card and your printed codes from the same QR codes page, using the same choices: what the code opens, your colour, your photo and your caption.
- Add the digital visiting card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for conversations.
- Print the same code at 5 cm for the back of a paper card, a sticker or a table tent, or download it as PNG or SVG for your printer.
If both point at a custom link like keepp.link/yourname/hello, you can change where they lead later. The printed cards keep working, and so does the wallet card. Scans from print and from your wallet card are counted separately, so you can see which gets used more.
What about digital business card apps?
Many digital business card apps keep your card inside their own app, or send the other person a contact file. A Keepp visiting card sits in the wallet already on your phone, and it opens your Keepp page. That page also takes bookings, sells products and collects form signups, so the card is the front door to the rest of what you do.
Common questions
Are digital business cards professional? Yes. Scanning a QR code is now an everyday thing in restaurants, at events and on packaging. A card with your photo and name in your own colours looks considered.
Do I still need paper business cards? Only for the situations where you leave something behind. Many people keep a small stack with a QR code on the back.
How much does a digital business card cost? On Keepp, the visiting card, QR codes and custom links are part of the Pro plan, along with everything else on your page.
Can the other person save my contact details? They get your page, with your email and social links from your page. They can bookmark it or save it to their home screen.
