Answer product questions before checkout

Buyers with one doubt about size, materials or delivery often leave to ask it. How a chat on your product page answers pre-sale questions before they go.

By Vasanth Sriram

Somebody likes the overshirt. They’ve looked at every photo and read the description. Then they wonder if it runs big, and there’s nothing to do with that thought except send a message and wait, or leave and forget about it.

A question like that decides the sale more often than the price does. Answering it while the buyer is still on the page is the whole job of a chat on a product page.

The questions buyers ask before they pay

For small shops they’re remarkably consistent:

  • Size and fit: does it run big, what are the measurements, which size is the model wearing?
  • Materials and care: is it pre-washed, can it go in the dryer, is it suitable for sensitive skin?
  • Delivery: do you ship to my country, how long does it take, when’s the cut-off?
  • Stock: is the other colour coming back, can I reserve one?
  • Bigger orders: can I buy ten for my team, is there a trade price?

Your product descriptions can answer some of these. Nobody can fit every answer into a description without burying the product under it.

How the chat answers

On a Keepp page, the chat button floats at the bottom right of the page. When a buyer opens a product on its own page, the button is still there, so they can ask about the thing they’re looking at.

The AI answers from two places and nothing else. The first is your page: your products, their descriptions and prices, and everything else on it, picked up by itself each time you publish. The second is What the AI should know in Chat settings, where you add what the page doesn’t say, like delivery days, returns and how things fit. When a question goes beyond both, it tells the buyer it doesn’t know, and the chat is marked for you. It doesn’t invent a delivery date or a measurement to close a sale.

Choose AI, then hand over to me and the questions that need you come to you: the trade order, the custom request, the stock you’d hold back for a regular. The chat opens as a topic in your Telegram group, you reply from your phone, and the buyer sees your answer on the page. If they’ve left, it reaches them by email.

Examples

A clothing maker. A buyer asks if the overshirt runs big. The AI answers from the description: it runs generous, so take the smaller size if you’re between two. They pick a size and check out.

A coffee roaster. A buyer asks how fresh the beans are when they arrive. The owner’s Chat settings say the roast is on Tuesday and the bags go out that afternoon, so the AI says exactly that. Then they ask about five kilos a month for their office, which goes to the roaster, who replies with trade prices.

A print seller. A buyer asks if a print is still available. The AI answers from the page and mentions that a sold-out one can be followed with the waiting-list form further down.

What to tell the AI

Think of the messages you answer most often and write the answers down once:

  • how your sizes run, and what to do between two
  • materials, care and anything a sensitive buyer would ask
  • where you ship, how long it takes, and the order cut-off
  • your returns and exchanges
  • trade and bulk orders, and who to talk to about them

Look at the chats marked Needs you after a week. The ones with a simple answer belong in What the AI should know.

The checkout stays on the page too

Once the question is answered, the buyer pays on the same page, through Stripe checkout on your own connected account. You’re the merchant of record, and the order lands in your dashboard with anything you asked at checkout.

Setting it up

Chat is part of the Influencer plan, which also takes no commission on what you sell. Add the chat block to your page, choose who answers in Chat → Settings, and fill in What the AI should know. Connect a Telegram group from the same settings if you want chats handed to you.

Set up chat has the steps. For the selling side, see Sell a product and Custom questions for purchases.
