An AI chatbot that answers from your own page

What an AI chatbot for a small business should know, where its answers come from, and why an AI that says "I don't know" is worth more than one that guesses.

The worry with putting an AI in front of your customers is that it will make things up. It tells someone you’re open on a bank holiday when you aren’t, or quotes a price you changed last month. For a small business, one wrong answer like that costs more than the chat ever saves.

So the useful question about an AI chatbot is where its answers come from.

Where the answers come from

On a Keepp page the AI has two sources, and it’s told to use nothing else.

Your page. Every time you publish, Keepp keeps a short summary of each block: a product and its price, a booking offering and what it includes, your map and opening hours, your links. When you change a price and republish, the summary changes with it, so the AI is always working from the page your visitors see.

Your note. In Chat → Settings there’s a box called What the AI should know. It holds up to 1,500 words, and it’s where you put what the page doesn’t say: your returns policy, delivery days, the questions you’re asked most, the tone you want.

When it doesn’t know

If a question goes beyond your page and your note, the AI says it doesn’t know rather than guessing. The chat is flagged in your conversations, so you can see which questions it couldn’t answer and decide whether they belong in the note.

If you’ve chosen to have the AI answer first and then hand over, the chat moves to you in Telegram at that point instead. The handover post covers when that’s the better setup.

Writing a note that works

A few things make the difference:

  • Use real answers. Write “We ship to the UK and Ireland, usually in three working days”, not “We offer fast shipping”.
  • Cover the edges. If you don’t deliver on Sundays, say so. The AI can only decline a question accurately if it knows where the line is.
  • Name the next step. If group bookings go by email or through a form, say where, and the AI will point people there.
  • Keep it current. Update the note when a policy changes, the same way you’d update the page.

What it costs you

Each AI reply counts as one action in your plan’s monthly pool, and a quick burst of messages answered in one go counts once. If the pool runs out, the AI stops and tells the visitor you’ll follow up, and your own replies from Telegram or your dashboard still go through.

Trying it

Chat is part of the Influencer plan. Switch it on in Chat → Settings, write your note, and add the chat block to your page. Set up chat walks through it, and the chat page shows what a visitor sees.
